Dengue is a febrile illness caused by infection with one of four dengue viruses transmitted by Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito bites. Infection may be asymptomatic or present with a broad range of clinical manifestations including a mild febrile illness to a life-threatening shock syndrome. Numerous viral, host, and vector factors are thought to impact risk of infection, disease, and disease severity.
Dengue virus infection is often asymptomatic but when symptomatic the infection usually presents as an influenza-like syndrome. Clinically it can present similar to other arboviral infections like Zika or Chikungunya.
Dengue infection may cause a rash that could be confused with Measles, Rubella or Zika virus.
