HCV viral load testing can be used for:

1. Diagnosis of acute Hepatitis C.

2. Confirmation of a positive anti-HCV antibody result.

3. Assessment of response to antiviral therapies. This is measured by changes in plasma HCV RNA levels.

From 1 February 2019, Maviret (Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir) will be available fully funded by PHARMAC for all genotypes.

Recommended samples for monitoring of treatment are one plasma sample at 12 weeks post treatment.

Refer to current NZ BPAC HCV treatment guidelines.
