Interpretation

 Neuronal Antibodies

Neuronal nuclear (Hu) antibodies are found in the serum and CSF of patients with small-cell lung cancers (and rarely with breast and prostate carcinomas) complicated by various paranoeplastic neurologic syndromes including subacute sensory neuropathy and paraneoplastic encephalomyelitis.

Purkinje Cell (Yo) antibodies are found in patients with subacute or paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration, which is a rare complication of some gynecological cancers (most frequently ovarian cancer) and rarely breast cancer and Hodgkin disease.

Additional Information

Test includes both Yo and Hu antibodies.

Additional specificities can be determined by western blot if paraneoplasic antibodies  are requested ON SERUM instead of neuronal antibodies. These include anti Ma1, Ma2, Amphiphysin, CV2 /CRMP5, Sox1, Zic4 and TR.
